VI-JOHN: A mini review (2024)

I skipped my shave yesterday getting sick due to a, thankfully, mild bout of food poisoning. The silver lining being all the extra stubble I'd get to mow down today. I honestly was looking forward to this shave. I had a tube of VI-JOHN shaving cream with bacti-guard, the one that comes in blue and white, I had lying around for a while. Since it was such a special shave,I decided to crack open the new product.

I was extra careful with my prep, also the Omega boar had been soaked at just the right temperature for just the right amount of time, a Treet black beauty on its second outing (the previous being very smooth). Added 2 1/2 drops of glycerin into the bowl. Squeezed the perfect amount of the cream on to the brush, just a tad more than usual. Had to stick my nose into the bowl to get a whiff the scent being so, I guess, subtle which turned out to be a blessing the fragrance being so God-awful sickly sweet cheap incense-ish. I worked the lather for a good 3 minutes but got only light airy fluffy lather. It felt awful when applied to the face, taking me back to my canned goo days. There was no cushion or glide, the razor skipped like a stutterer delivering his first major speech. All in all, a real downer. I feel robbed of a possible BBS by this cruddy cream.

I have had good lather from my tube of vj menthol cream, and it is powerful menthol for sure. Can you get the bangladeshi cream "KOOL" in Pakistan ? It has a nice kick to it as well, you may get better results from it...

Really? I find that Vi-John shaves pretty nicely.

malocchio, I had a feeling you would comment given your flair for the exotic and obscure VI-JOHN: A mini review (6) I know VJ comes in 3 variations but I could only find the regular version. I believe I have seen the KOOL cream being sold somewhere, I will buy a tube next time I see it. I also have some tubes of Imaj (all 3 variants) and Lord Emofresh I haven't tried yet. I wanted to ask you, have you tried Hâttric shave cream by Schwarzkopf? Its one of the best creams I've ever used, amazing scent and effortless creamy lather using minimum product. But strangely I haven't been able to find a single review or any mention of it online.

See, I've read good reviews of VJ on the forum. The tube I bought is fresh stock and it really should have produced good results. The method I employed has never resulted in airy lather, I'm telling you that lather had the consistency of canned gel rubbed on face.

No...never tried the Hattric...love the Egyptian Lord cream ,have not heard of the Imaj cream,is it from India ? as a general rule,I find Indian creams to be very good quality at reasonable prices.I get most all my Indian creams from http://www.desistores.net , which also has a fine selection of talcum...Even with shipping,a best buy...if you find an online source that ships to the u.s. for KOOL creams, please let me know !

I've been thinking about posting a review for a while now. Could make an attempt this weekend.

Imaj cream is from Turkey. If I find the KOOL cream here, I'll send you a couple of tubes.

Lather and Razors

Airy lather means not enough product,3cm of cream would give you stable and rich lather.

Usually ,but not always true. For instance,Brion cream from Serbia is airy and thin no matter what you do to it !...this is an old thread, wonder if they still produce Hattric cream?

I never even knew there was a shaving cream from Hattric, and I've used their aftershave which I think is nice.
